Day 1: Fes to Merzouga Desert (Approx. 7 to 8 hours of driving)
Your bilingual driver in French and English will pick you up early in the morning from your riad or hotel in Fes. The journey begins through the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains, passing by the charming town of Ifrane, often called the Swiss village of Morocco, known for its clean streets and alpine-style houses. The next stop is the cedar forest near Azrou, home to the famous Barbary apes, where you can take some photos and enjoy the natural scenery.
Continuing the drive, you’ll cross Midelt and then descend toward the Ziz Valley, filled with palm trees and small Berber villages. You’ll stop for lunch in a local restaurant before heading deeper into the desert region. As you approach Merzouga, the scenery turns golden, and the dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, you will meet your camel guide for an unforgettable ride through the dunes while watching the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay will be in a traditional desert camp under the starlit sky, where local music and a warm atmosphere complete your evening.
Day 2: Merzouga to Fes (Approx. 7 to 8 hours of driving)
Wake up early to witness the magical sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at the camp. You’ll then return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 to meet your driver and start the journey back to Fes. The road back follows a scenic route across the Ziz Valley and through the Middle Atlas Mountains once again.
You’ll stop in Midelt for lunch and short breaks along the way to stretch and admire the views. The drive continues through the cedar forests near Azrou and the beautiful landscapes surrounding Ifrane before arriving in Fes by early evening. Drop-off will be at your accommodation, marking the end of your Sahara adventure.
