8 Days Imperial Cities Tour | Marrakech to Casablanca

Day 1: Marrakech – Arrival & First Discoveries

You arrive in Marrakech and settle into your riad or hotel. After relaxing, head out with your English/French-speaking guide for an afternoon stroll through famous landmarks like the Jemaa El–Fnaa square, Koutoubia Mosque, and Bahia Palace. Dinner at a local restaurant lets you sample Moroccan flavors as the city lights begin to twinkle.

Day 2: Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate (Approx. 4-5 hours driving)

Early start leaving Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka pass. Stop for photos at panoramic points. Arrive in Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO kasbah with cinematic history. Explore its ancient earthen buildings, then continue onwards to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Overnighting here gives you time to take in the studios or local kasbahs.

Day 3: Ouarzazate → Dades Valley → Todra Gorge

After breakfast, drive through the lush Skoura palm groves and rose valleys to the Dades Valley. Later, head to Todra Gorge. Walk through its dramatic canyon, feel the cool breeze, and enjoy lunch nearby. Overnight in a lodge in the Dades or Gorge area, enjoying mountain views and local hospitality.

Day 4: Todra Gorge → Merzouga Desert (Sahara Experience)

Depart early toward the Sahara Desert. The heat and light change as you approach Merzouga. In the late afternoon, take a camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, watch the sunset paint the sand gold, then enjoy dinner in a desert camp with stars overhead. Night in the camp under desert skies.

Day 5: Merzouga – Desert Day & Sunrise

Wake before dawn for a sunrise over the dunes, a magical moment. After breakfast, you can explore more desert activities, visits nomadic villages, take optional 4×4 excursions, or simply relax in your desert lodge. Evening returns to the camp for desert cuisine, music, and unforgettable skies.

Day 6: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Ifrane (Approx. 6-7 hours driving)

Leave the dunes behind and travel back through the lush Ziz Valley, with its palm oases and kasbahs. Stop in Midelt for lunch and rest. Continue over Middle Atlas terrain, entering cedar forests near Azrou, and arrive in Ifrane, the “Little Switzerland” of Morocco. An overnight stay in Ifrane gives you a restful, alpine-style break.

Day 7: Ifrane → Fez – Full Day in Imperial Fez

After breakfast, drive toward Fez. Once there, embark on a guided city tour inside the medina: visit madrasas, tanneries, “old city” souks, Al-Quaraouiyine University, and other historic sites. Evening in Fez gives time to explore local riads and cafes and soak up the spiritual and cultural atmosphere.

Day 8: Fez → Meknes → Rabat → Casablanca (Approx. 4-5 hours driving)

Depart Fez and head to Meknes to see Bab Mansour, mausoleums, and historic gates. The next stop is the Roman ruins of Volubilis nearby. Then proceed toward Morocco’s administrative capital, Rabat; walk the Kasbah of the Udayas; and see the Hassan Tower and Royal Palace. Finally, drive to Casablanca to complete your journey. Drop-off at accommodation or airport marks the end of your experience.
