Your day begins at 9:00 or 10:00 AM when your friendly chauffeur picks you up from your riad or hotel in the Medina. As you drive toward the outskirts of the old city, your guide will share fascinating insights about Fez’s 9th-century origins and how it became one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers in the Islamic world. The first stop is the Mellah, Fez’s historic Jewish Quarter, where you’ll visit the ancient synagogue and the Jewish cemetery. The walk continues to admire the stunning Moorish-style architecture of royal residences and the Andalusian Gardens in Fez el-Jadid. Next, the car takes you to Borj Sud, a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast sea of rooftops and alleys of Fez Medina. From here, you can truly appreciate the maze of more than 9,000 narrow streets that constitute this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your tour continues with a visit to a traditional ceramic workshop, where skilled artisans handcraft pottery using techniques passed down for generations. You’ll see firsthand how intricate mosaics and zellige tiles are made before they reach Fez’s palaces and mosques. Then, step inside the Chouara Tannery, Africa’s oldest and largest traditional tannery, where natural dyes and ancient methods are still used to produce some of Morocco’s finest leather.
In the afternoon, follow your guide through the labyrinth of Fez Medina, discovering its vibrant souks filled with spices, colorful textiles, and handmade Berber crafts. Along the way, you’ll explore some of the city’s most remarkable landmarks, including the University of Al-Qarawiyyin (the oldest university in the world), Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Attarine Madrasa, and Najjarine Fountain. Before the day ends, visit the Batha Museum, home to collections of Moroccan art, and finish your adventure at the iconic Bab Boujloud, the famous Blue Gate of Fez, adorned with traditional green and blue tiles. After a day filled with history, culture, and local encounters, your bilingual-speaking(FR/ENG) driver will take you back comfortably to your accommodation or riad.
